Great Things to Hear in Las Vegas

Exciting Things to Do (and Hear) in Las Vegas

In the Entertainment Capital of the World, there is plenty to hear. From the big venues on the Strip to smaller performance spaces, Las Vegas offers something for everyone. With live shows every night, you might find yourself overwhelmed with choices. Here at Desert Valley Audiology, we’ve honed in a few upcoming acts that we’re particularly excited about.

Aretha Franklin, Caesars Palace:

On August 14, the Queen of Soul plays the Colosseum at Caesars Palace. For the past 50 years, Aretha Franklin has influenced many generations of musicians and audience members alike, with her exuberant, warm sound. Franklin’s hits from the 1960s with Atlantic Records captured her playful, joyous side, while her later work explored a deeper, passionate side with gospel and rhythm and blues sounds. In recent years, Franklin has made few appearances due to health issues and age; be catch to see this 20th century diva this summer!

Book of Mormon, Smith Center:

From South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, Book of Mormon is the smash Broadway hit that has won nine Tony Awards since its debut in March 2011. Inspired by their familiarity with the Church of Latter Day Saints, Parker and Stone bring their own brand of surreal humor to Book of Mormon. This religious satire musical follows two Mormon missionaries to Uganda, where they are unable to connect with locals who are dealing with the more pressing issue of survival in a war-torn, impoverished country. Book of Mormon plays at the Smith Center from September 22 to October 18.

Wanda Sykes, Treasure Island:

Once a contractor for the NSA, comedienne Wanda Sykes gained popularity through roles in Curb Your Enthusiasm and films such as Evan Almighty, Licensed to Wed, and My Super Ex-Girlfriend, as well as two HBO comedy specials and as a writer for The Chris Rock Show. In her stand-up, Sykes combines insightful observation on social issues with a particular blend of political humor to educate and incite her audience. She performs at Treasure Island on September 25.

Jerry Seinfeld, Caesars Palace:

From his eponymous hit sitcom “about nothing” to a new web series, Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, Jerry Seinfeld is a major player in American comedy. With his long-form jokes and conversational tone, Seinfeld levels you with his observations, letting the joke sneak up when you least expect it. Headlining at Caesars Palace this September 2015, on Fridays and Saturdays.

Mariah Carey, Caesars Palace:

With her exquisite five-octave voice, Mariah Carey became a star in the early 1990s and maintains her standing as an international diva to this day. With melancholy romantic ballads to hip-hop inspired dance hits, Mariah Carey has co-written and produced the majority of her catalog (unlike other female vocalists of her fame and caliber). To date, she is one of the highest-selling female artists of all time, and continues to thrill audiences with her awe-inspiring voice and empathic lyrics. Following her wildly popular residency at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace in May 2015, a second season has been announced for February 2016.
