What is the vestibular system and why does it affect balance?

The vestibular system is the part of the inner ear responsible for balance and spatial orientation. When it malfunctions, symptoms can include dizziness, vertigo, unsteadiness while walking, or difficulty seeing clearly during head movement.

What tests are performed during a vestibular evaluation?

We use several neurodiagnostic tests depending on your symptoms, including VNG, ECOG, rotary chair testing, and VEMP testing (oVEMPs and cVEMPs). Each test evaluates a different aspect of inner ear and vestibular system function.

What is VNG testing?

VNG, or vestibulonystagmography, measures eye movements in response to head position changes. It is one of the most widely used tests for assessing inner ear balance function and helps identify conditions such as BPPV and other vestibular disorders.

Why might my dizziness have been misdiagnosed?

Inner ear conditions are frequently mistaken for other diagnoses, including multiple sclerosis, clinical depression, or anxiety. Objective vestibular testing helps identify the true source of your symptoms and supports a more accurate diagnosis and effective course of care.

Do you provide treatment for balance disorders as well as testing?
