Pediatric Hearing Care

Expert care from birth including ABR testing and ongoing developmental support.

Hearing Care for Children at Every Stage

Children's hearing health plays a direct role in how they develop speech, language, and learning skills from the earliest days of life. Hearing loss in children is more common than many parents realize. Approximately 14.9% of children in the United States have some degree of hearing loss, and early identification makes a meaningful difference in outcomes.

At Desert Valley Audiology, we provide comprehensive audiological services for patients of all ages, including newborns, infants, and children through adolescence. Our team has extensive experience with pediatric testing and is equipped with the tools to evaluate hearing at every stage of development.

Benefits of Professional Pediatric Hearing Care

Getting a pediatric hearing evaluation performed by a trained audiologist gives you accurate, objective information about your child's hearing at every developmental stage — not just a pass or fail from a school hearing screening.

ABR and OAE testing provide objective results for infants who cannot respond behaviorally

Evaluations tailored to every age, from newborns through adolescents

Early identification opens the door to timely intervention and better long-term outcomes

Pediatric hearing aid fittings and full follow-up care available when needed

We provide hearing services for patients of all ages, including newborns. For very young infants and children who cannot respond to traditional hearing tests, we use ABR (Auditory Brainstem Response) and OAE (Otoacoustic Emissions) testing to assess hearing objectively.
ABR testing measures how the auditory nerve and brain respond to sound, making it reliable for infants who cannot respond behaviorally. OAE testing measures sounds produced by the inner ear in response to stimulation, providing additional data about cochlear function.
Pediatric hearing tests are painless and non-invasive. ABR testing is often performed while the child is sleeping, and other assessments are designed to be age-appropriate and comfortable. Our team is experienced in working with children of all ages and temperaments.
We recommend a hearing evaluation if your child has failed a newborn hearing screen, has delayed speech or language development, does not respond consistently to sound, or has a family history of childhood hearing loss.
If hearing loss is identified, we will walk you through the results and discuss options appropriate for your child's age and degree of loss — including hearing aids, monitoring plans, and referrals for additional services as needed.

Common Questions About Pediatric Hearing Care

Parents frequently come to us with many questions about pediatric hearing testing, particularly first-time visitors. Here's what families most often want to know before bringing their child in to see us at Desert Valley Audiology.

How Pediatric Hearing Evaluations Work

Pediatric hearing evaluations are tailored to each child's age and developmental stage, using a combination of objective and behavioral testing methods to build an accurate and complete picture of their hearing health at every age.

  • Health and Developmental History: We review your child's health history and discuss any concerns about their hearing, speech, or development.
  • Age-Appropriate Hearing Testing: We use age-appropriate tests including ABR and OAE to assess your child's hearing objectively and accurately.
  • Results and Next Steps: We walk parents through the results and outline any recommended next steps or treatment options available.
